You Need a Few Good Statement Pieces!!

Do I think every piece in your closet needs to be a statement piece? No, but do I think you...

Do I think every piece in your closet needs to be a statement piece? No, but do I think you need a few? Absolutely.

We understand that every day cannot be a runway because a lot of us live very real lives.

You need clothes for work, running errands, picking up the kids, sitting on the bleachers at basketball games and handling everything else that fills your week. Some of you are nurses. Some of you are working long days. Some of you have a child walking toward you with crusty, dirty, cheesy fingers tips  while you are wearing something you actually care about.

That is real life.

I see the girls on the internet too. They are going to the grocery store in a full look, and somehow nobody is asking them to carry snacks, find a missing shoe or hold a sticky juice box. It looks great, but that is not how every day works for most of us.

You need everyday clothes that can keep up with your life.

But you also need a few statement pieces.

We talked about this before in “No One Remembers the Girl in the Boring Outfit,” and I still stand behind that.

You need a few dresses that are ready for the days when you want something more interesting. A dress with color, movement, an unexpected shape or a detail that makes somebody look twice and ask, “Where did you get that?”

You do not need a dozen statement pieces.

You need a few good ones that feel like you and work for the places you actually go. Maybe you have a birthday dinner, a wedding, a concert, a vacation or a night out with your friends. Maybe you have been doing the school pickup and bleacher routine all week, and you are ready to put on something good and go somewhere that does not sell nachos in a paper tray.

A good statement dress also makes getting ready easier. The dress already brings personality to the outfit, so you are not standing in front of the mirror trying to figure out how to make everything more interesting. You add your shoes, grab a bag, put on your jewelry and keep moving.

The statement may come from the color, the ruffles, the volume, the fabric or the way the dress moves when you walk. The right dress should catch your attention while still feeling like something you would actually wear.

And you should wear it more than once.

Change the shoes. Carry another bag. Switch the jewelry. Wear your hair differently. Take it to another dinner, another celebration or another city. A memorable dress does not have to be retired after one good night and a few pictures.

That is the idea behind the statement dresses arriving this Friday.

They are for the days when your everyday clothes are doing exactly what they are supposed to do, but you are ready to wear something that gets a little more attention.

You do not need a closet full of them.

You just need a few good ones.

Take a look at the new statement dresses on Friday and let me know which one feels most like you.
